A man was lynched by a mob allegedly for chanting "Pakistan Zindabad" during a local cricket match in Karnataka's coastal city of Mangaluru.

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed the incident, stating that the victim did not die immediately but later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

"An incident of mob lynching has been reported involving an unidentified individual," Parameshwara told the Press Trust of India (PTI).

"I was informed that there are reports he was shouting 'Pakistan Zindabad' during a local cricket match, which led some people to beat him. He didn’t die on the spot but passed away later. I’m yet to receive the full report," he added.

Police said over 10 individuals have been arrested in connection with the attack. Further investigations are underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities have appealed for calm amid fears of escalating tensions in the region.
