Sean "Diddy" Combs is preparing for trial with a new defence argument that prosecutors are dismissing as unconvincing.

According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Diddy is seeking to introduce testimony from a Columbia University doctor suggesting that a "mental condition," influenced by alcohol use, impaired his ability to control his behaviour during the time of the alleged crimes.

The details of the claimed condition are redacted in the public documents. However, prosecutors argue that the defence has not provided sufficient notice under legal precedent for introducing evidence related to the effects of drugs or alcohol on a defendant’s memory or cognitive function.

They also noted that the doctor in question has no prior medical history with Diddy and would rely on comparisons to other patients, weakening the relevance of the testimony.

The prosecutors are strongly opposing the inclusion of the doctor's testimony, arguing that it fails to directly address Diddy's personal circumstances and therefore should not influence the jury’s assessment of guilt.

Judge Subramanian, overseeing the case, has yet to rule on the admissibility of this argument. However, previous comments suggest he is unlikely to grant additional time for further evidence gathering, describing such efforts as a potential "fishing expedition."

Diddy remains held at the Metropolitan Detention Center ahead of his scheduled trial start on 5 May. Jury selection is set to begin on that day, with opening statements expected shortly afterwards. Diddy and his legal team, now including high-profile attorney Brian Steel, had requested a two-month delay to prepare further but were denied.

The trial involves charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, serious allegations that could have a significant impact on Diddy’s career and legacy.
