
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Monday that the scope of digital wallets would be broadened across the country, integrating provincial systems into a coordinated national framework for digital payments.
Speaking at a ceremony to for individuals with outstanding contributions to the success of the Prime Minister's Ramazan Relief Package, the PM stated that modern payment methods had significantly enhanced the transparency and efficiency of fund transfers, while also maintaining the dignity of the beneficiaries.
"Through digital wallets, 79% of the funds in the relief program were transferred seamlessly and transparently," the PM said, highlighting that the previous system had significant flaws that have now been addressed with the new digital framework.
He outlined plans to ensure that next year, all disbursements would be made digitally, achieving 100% utilisation of funds through modern payment systems. He further noted that the initiative would continue to evolve with provincial governments being brought into the integrated digital payment system.
Secretary of the Benazir Income Support Programme, Amir Ahmed Ali, provided a detailed briefing on the Ramazan Relief Package and the use of digital wallets. The PM also presented honorary shields to key officials from both public and private sectors who played pivotal roles in the programme’s implementation.
