RAWALPINDI:

Despite a clear decision from the governing body, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) employees have yet to receive the 100 per cent allowance approved by the Punjab government two years ago.

A retiring officer, on his last working day, reportedly prepared a letter to refer the matter once again to the Punjab government.

According to sources, in fiscal year 2020–21, the Punjab government declared that employees from Grade 1 to 22 were eligible for a 50 per cent Secretariat Allowance on their running salary.

The RDA's Governing Body promptly implemented this and decided that any future increase in the allowance by the Punjab government would automatically apply to RDA as well.

However, on December 21, 2022, the Finance Department of Punjab issued a notification increasing the allowance from 50 per cent to 100 per cent.

Despite this, the decision has not been implemented in RDA for the past two years. Employees referenced the original governing body resolution and sent a request to the director general of RDA, asking for the allowance to be raised to 100 per cent, a recommendation also endorsed by the additional director general. Yet, just before retiring, an officer prepared a letter suggesting the matter be referred back to the Punjab government.
