Liverpool clinched their 20th English top-flight title in spectacular fashion with a commanding 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, equalling Manchester United’s record and sending Anfield into euphoric celebration.

Arne Slot’s side recovered swiftly from a surprise early setback, roaring back to dominate the first half in front of a raucous 60,000-strong crowd. The result leaves Liverpool uncatchable on 82 points, 15 clear of second-placed Arsenal with four games remaining.

The match began with a stirring rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” under spring sunshine, setting the tone for a momentous afternoon. Despite a bright start, Liverpool were stunned when Dominic Solanke headed Spurs in front in the 12th minute from a James Maddison corner.

However, the response was emphatic. Luis Díaz leveled just four minutes later, converting Dominik Szoboszlai’s cross, VAR confirming the goal despite an initial offside flag. The momentum was now with the home side.

Alexis Mac Allister gave Liverpool the lead with a thunderous strike from the edge of the box in the 24th minute, and Cody Gakpo extended the advantage to 3-1 shortly after, capitalizing on defensive chaos.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, with one eye on the Europa League semi-finals, made eight changes from his previous lineup, but his weakened side were no match for the rampant Reds.

The second half was a procession. Mohamed Salah, fittingly, added the fourth with a trademark finish after linking up with Szoboszlai. He celebrated with a selfie in front of the Kop, capturing a moment of triumph and release for fans denied a proper celebration of the 2020 title due to Covid-19.

The fifth came via an own goal from Destiny Udogie, compounding Spurs’ misery and igniting full-throttle celebrations in the stands.

At the final whistle, Anfield erupted, scarves aloft, the anthem echoing once more, as fans savored the crowning moment of a dominant campaign.

This title caps a remarkable debut season for Slot, who succeeded Jurgen Klopp last summer. Despite early concerns about a transitional period, the Dutchman steered the club with calm authority, even amid persistent speculation around key players.

Salah and captain Virgil van Dijk have since penned new two-year deals, solidifying the team’s core, though questions remain over the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold, widely rumored to be on Real Madrid’s radar.

For Tottenham, now languishing in 16th after their 19th defeat of the season, the pressure is mounting on Postecoglou. But for Liverpool, the day belonged to history, shared now with their fiercest rivals atop the pantheon of English football.
