Police register case, launch manhunt for suspected mugger

A citizen was robbed of his belongings in a novel way in the Dhok Babu area in New Town police limits the other day.

In what appeared to be a unique incident of snatching, the suspect grabbed a pedestrian by his arm from behind, made him fall unconscious and looted his cash. The victim works in the Awan-e-Saddar.

The police registered a case and started searching for the suspect. The CCTV footage of the incident has also come to light.

Muhammad Shahid, who is posted as a Naib Qasid in the Awan-e-Saddar, could be seen walking in the street while another person walking behind him in the street suddenly forms an arm barrier from behind and grabs Shahid and starts squeezing his neck.

Shahid, who is trapped in the arm barrier, could be seen falling into the street and feeling pain.

With time, the robber searches the victim as soon as the latter falls to the ground, takes money and other things and flees.

The victim could be seen lying in the street in a semi-conscious state due to the violence and neck pressing.

The robber is also clearly visible in the CCTV footage. Soon after the incident, Shahid alerted Newtown SHO Anwarul Haq, and the police technical team reached the spot.

The SHO said that a case had been registered and that the investigation team was busy tracking the accused with the help of CCTV footage, hoping to capture the runaway suspect soon.

Shahid told The Express Tribune that he was going to work from home at the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani took notice of the incident and sought a report from the Rawal SP.

The police spokesperson said that the incident was being investigated and the accused was being identified through CCTV footage and technical means.
