Police have booked a woman and her spouse for allegedly torturing and killing a toddler. Three-year-old Ali was the son of Rimsha from her first marriage, according to Liaquatabad DSP Iqbal Sheikh.
Rimsha married Asad two months before the brutal murder of Ali, and the family lived in FC Area within the remits of Sharifabad police station.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Asad and Rimsha used to abuse the toddler, with neighbours also confirming the mistreatment.
On Wednesday night, Ali's health reportedly deteriorated. He was first rushed to a private clinic and then driven to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The couple initially claimed that Ali had fallen down the stairs. However, the toddler succumbed to his injuries and was quietly buried in the local graveyard.
Following reports of Ali's suspicious death, police detained both Rimsha and Asad for questioning. According to SHO Mehr Yousuf, the couple gave conflicting statements and repeatedly blamed each other during interrogation.
Subsequently, the murder case was registered on the complaint of the victim's paternal uncle. The case has now been handed over to the investigation police. Police have indicated that the toddler's body might be exhumed if deemed necessary.
