Expresses satisfaction over reduction in annual SPI rate

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday directed the relevant authorities to ensure the privatisation of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) within the given time frame.

Chairing a meeting to review the ongoing process of privatization of PIA, the prime minister stressed that transparency must be central to the procedure for the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines.

The prime minister emphasizing the importance of roadshows and fully engaging investors in the privatization process, directed that in order to ensure transparency, the privatization of PIA and all future state-owned enterprises must be broadcast live on television and digital platforms.

The meeting was told that a comprehensive investor outreach strategy had been developed in collaboration with the consultant and was being fully implemented.

The prime minister was also informed about the criteria of the bidding, required time period and the conditions to participate in the bidding process.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday expressed satisfaction over the reduction in the annual rate of sensitive price index to minus 3.52 per cent.

The prime minister said in the same month of 2024, this rate was 26.94 per cent, which was recorded as minus 3.52 in April 2025.

"The country's economic indicators are improving with each passing day. The government is making every effort to ensure that the people get the fruits of the improving economic indicators," he said. The prime minister extended his appreciation for the government's economic team.

Malaria disease

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday said that the government and national leadership were fully prepared to reach remote areas and achieve the goals to eradicate the disease through national malaria programs and reforms and strategies within the health system.

In his message on World Malaria Day, the prime minister said the Day was an occasion observed globally to renew the commitment to practical measures, the elimination of malaria, and the determination to go to the utmost lengths in the fight against this curable disease.

"This year's theme - "Accelerate the fight against malaria with investments, innovation, and action" - aims to re-energize efforts at all levels, from global policy to community action, to accelerate progress towards malaria elimination," the prime minister said.

He called upon all stakeholders - government, civil society, health workers, and the international community - to unite and work collectively for this vital mission.
