Amy Poehler recently shared a hilarious behind-the-scenes story about working with her then-husband, Will Arnett, on Blades of Glory.

Speaking on the April 23 episode of the Las Culturistas podcast, Poehler, 53, recalled playing Arnett’s sister in the 2007 figure skating comedy — despite being married in real life at the time.

“That was really fun,” Poehler said, laughing. “Will Arnett and I played brother and sister, but we were actually married in real life. When they tested the movie, audiences hated Stranz and Fairchild.” Poehler and Arnett portrayed rival skaters Stranz and Fairchild Van Waldenberg, who tried to take down the main characters played by Will Ferrell and Jon Heder.

Podcast hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers were surprised by the audience reaction, but Poehler pointed out, “We were like, ‘Well, we’re the villains!’” She added that directors Josh Gordon and Will Speck stood by their performances, keeping most of their scenes in the final cut.

Besides Blades of Glory, Poehler and Arnett often crossed paths professionally, even appearing on each other’s sitcoms, Parks and Recreation and Arrested Development. The couple, who share sons Archie and Abel, separated in 2012 and finalized their divorce in 2016.

Despite their split, they’ve stayed on good terms. Earlier this year, Arnett even gave a sweet (and funny) shoutout to Poehler’s new podcast Good Hang. Poehler also made a surprise appearance on Arnett’s Smartless podcast, joking about their continued connection.
