A severe heatwave continues to grip Punjab, with temperatures expected to rise as high as 45°C by the end of April, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Lahore, along with most of Punjab, is experiencing intensifying heat under dry weather conditions. The minimum temperature in the provincial capital was recorded at 23°C, with a projected high of 40°C. The use of air conditioners in homes and offices has surged amid the rising temperatures.

Meteorologists said there is no chance of rain in the next two to three days, and dry weather is likely to persist, further escalating the heat intensity.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) also confirmed the continuation of the heatwave across Punjab. A PDMA spokesperson said, “Temperatures may reach up to 45°C by the end of April, especially in southern districts like Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Multan.”

Recent temperature readings include 44°C in Bahawalnagar, 42°C in Rahim Yar Khan and Bhakkar, and 41°C in Kot Addu. In central Punjab, areas such as Toba Tek Singh, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Okara, Mandi Bahauddin, Khanewal, Kasur, Jhang, Hafizabad, and Faisalabad recorded temperatures near 40°C.

Authorities have taken precautionary steps following instructions from the Punjab chief minister. PDMA confirmed that water supplies are being ensured in desert regions like Cholistan, while hospitals across the province have set up dedicated heatwave response counters.

The agency has also instructed health departments to stock essential medicines for treating heatstroke and is using media channels to raise public awareness about the risks associated with extreme heat.
