Sophie Nyweide, a former child actress, was pregnant at the time of her death, according to a death certificate obtained by People. The 24-year-old was found dead on April 14 near a riverbank in Bennington, Vermont. Authorities have not yet confirmed a cause of death, pending autopsy and toxicology results.

Bennington police told TMZ that Nyweide’s body was discovered near a makeshift lean-to structure. Investigators believe she was not living in the shelter but had been spending time in the area with a small group of individuals, none of whom are considered suspects.

Nyweide’s mother, actress Shelly Gibson, told TMZ the family is grieving and asked for privacy. She described Sophie’s time in the film industry as brief but positive, noting that she was safe and supported on set. Gibson expressed concern that drug use may have played a role in her daughter’s death, citing Sophie’s struggles with addiction and her association with unfamiliar individuals at the time.

As a child, Nyweide acted in films including Mammoth, Noah, and An Invisible Sign, appearing alongside actors such as Michelle Williams, Jessica Alba, and Russell Crowe. Her obituary described her as creative, athletic, and artistically gifted, with a deep love for dance and performing.

The tribute also acknowledged her mental health challenges and past trauma. It noted that she often self-medicated and declined treatment, which may have contributed to her passing. Despite her struggles, her family remembered her as a kind and trusting soul who left a lasting impact.

As authorities continue their investigation, loved ones reflect on Sophie’s brief but meaningful life and the hardships she quietly endured.
