Netflix’s psychological thriller You returns for its fifth and final season on Thursday, April 24, concluding the dark saga of Joe Goldberg, portrayed by Penn Badgley.
The final instalment sees Joe back in New York City, three years after relocating from London with Kate Lockwood, played by Charlotte Ritchie. Now married, Kate is the CEO of the Lockwood Corporation, and Joe has been rebranded as a charismatic public figure. However, the ghosts of his past and his compulsive tendencies begin to unravel his carefully curated life.
Co-showrunner Michael Foley revealed the intention behind bringing Joe back to New York was always part of the series arc. “We always said that we would stop after five and, in a perfect world, we would bring Joe back home to New York.”
The cast for season five includes Madeline Brewer as Bronte, Griffin Matthews as Teddy Lockwood, Anna Camp, Natasha Behnam, Pete Ploszek, Tom Francis, and Nava Mau.
Across previous seasons, Joe’s journey spanned multiple cities and personas. From his initial obsession with Guinevere Beck in New York, to a turbulent romance with Love Quinn in Los Angeles, and a harrowing reinvention in London, Joe left behind a trail of manipulation and murder.
Season four explored his fractured psyche and introduced a hallucinatory character, pushing Joe to confront his deepest darkness.
You season 5 premieres globally on 24 April at 3 a.m. ET, with all 10 episodes dropping simultaneously on Netflix.
