Leonardo DiCaprio has shared a heartfelt tribute to the late Pope Francis, describing him as a "transformational leader" in both the Catholic Church and the global environmental movement.

DiCaprio, a renowned environmental activist, posted a message on Instagram remembering his 2016 meeting with the Pope at the Vatican, where the two were seen shaking hands and flipping through books together.

The actor highlighted Pope Francis' unwavering commitment to environmental causes, especially his 2015 encyclical Laudato Si’, which called for urgent action to address climate change. DiCaprio praised the Pope's ability to unite individuals, communities, and leaders worldwide in the effort to protect the planet, an initiative he considered both revolutionary and necessary for future generations.

DiCaprio also reflected on their meeting, which coincided with the release of his climate change documentary Before The Flood. He called the encounter "enlightening" and "deeply moving," noting the profound impact it had on him to discuss climate change with such a prominent spiritual leader.

In his tribute, DiCaprio described Pope Francis as one of the most extraordinary spiritual leaders of our time. He concluded that the Pope’s legacy would continue to inspire environmental activists for generations to come.

Pope Francis, who passed away on Monday at the age of 88 following a stroke and irreversible cardiovascular arrest, will be remembered for his influential efforts to promote sustainability and climate action across the globe.
