CCTV footage has surfaced in the tragic case of a five-year-old girl, Sawera, who was abducted and murdered in Karachi, officials said on Tuesday.
According to a special investigative team, the CCTV recording shows Sawera walking alongside her younger brother before she went missing. The footage, which emerged during an ongoing investigation, has been closely reviewed by law enforcement.
Investigators recorded a statement from Sawera's younger brother, who revealed that both children had gone out to buy something and then returned home. However, according to his account, Sawera left the house again alone and did not come back.
The special team examined several CCTV cameras installed in the surrounding streets of Sawera’s residence, but no additional footage of her after that point was found.
Authorities have also sent a DNA sample of a relative seen in the CCTV footage for testing, as part of efforts to verify possible leads.
Police officials confirmed that over a dozen suspects have been taken into custody for questioning so far. The investigative team, formed on the instructions of Karachi’s Additional Inspector General of Police, is working along multiple lines of inquiry.
