Kamya Gupta, an Indian entrepreneur and AI enthusiast, has drawn widespread attention online after using OpenAI’s ChatGPT to plan and execute a room makeover project.

Treating the chatbot as a virtual interior designer, Kamya Gupta transformed her living space with the help of AI-generated ideas — a process she documented in a video that has since gone viral.

The project began with a simple message to ChatGPT. Gupta asked the AI for suggestions on repainting a wall to complement wooden flooring, while aiming for an eclectic aesthetic filled with photo frames. The chatbot suggested earthy tones that would match the flooring, prompting Kamya Gupta to consult it further for layout, decor, and lighting ideas.

Over several sessions, ChatGPT offered guidance on everything from art placement and wall layout to incorporating neon signage. Kamya Gupta also shared screenshots of the furniture and lighting she planned to use, asking the chatbot to help blend them into the overall design. The responses were incorporated into mockups and later brought to life during the renovation.

The makeover was not just a personal project — it was also a gift for Kamya Gupta’s parents. She designed the room as a surprise for them and captured their reaction in the final part of her video, where they appeared visibly moved by the transformation.

“Honestly, this is insane,” Kamya Gupta wrote in her Instagram caption. “A thought I had in my mind for years came to life just through a conversation. Doing this for my parents, getting the best reaction, having all my core memories up, and finally having my chill spot—I’m thankful and scared of AI at the same time.”

The video quickly gained traction across social media platforms, with users praising her patience, creativity, and innovative use of artificial intelligence. One commenter wrote, “You used ChatGPT the right way… and might I say it became your interior designer.” Another remarked, “The best use of AI I’ve seen in a while.”

Kamya Gupta’s project resonated with a wide audience as an example of how AI tools can be applied beyond productivity or content creation, and into personal, real-world problem-solving.
