A 22-year-old female student of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) was shot dead by an unidentified young man who forcibly entered her private hostel room. The suspect managed to flee the scene after the incident.
According to the victim's brother, who filed a case at the Ramna Police Station, his sister was residing in a private hostel while studying at the university. He reported that an unknown man forcibly entered her room, instructed the other girls present to stay silent, and then opened fire on his sister in front of her three roommates. She died on the spot.
Police have handed over the body to the family after conducting a post-mortem examination. However, the suspect has not yet been apprehended.
On the other hand, the IIUI administration expressed deep sorrow over the 'tragic death' of a female student. "The university expresses its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family during this painful time," said a press release on Monday.
It is important to clarify that the unfortunate incident did not occur within the university's premises or its hostels. Contrary to certain media reports, the incident took place at a private hostel unaffiliated with IIUI, the press release added.
IIUI leadership has expressed profound grief over the loss of a young and promising student, and the entire university community mourns this irreparable loss, it said.
