Carl Weathers’ beloved character, Combat Carl, will continue his legacy in the Toy Story universe, as the role has been recast with Ernie Hudson.
Hudson, best known for his role in Ghostbusters, will step into the shoes of the action figure character in Toy Story 5, set to release next summer, as per TMZ.
Weathers, who portrayed Combat Carl with his signature tough-guy persona, passed away last year at the age of 76 from atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The actor’s death, while unexpected, shocked many in Hollywood as he had been actively involved in projects, including The Mandalorian, at the time of his passing.
Combat Carl, a G.I. Joe-type action figure in the Toy Story franchise, is a fitting role for Hudson, whose portrayal of action heroes in films like Predator had a similar tough edge. Hudson’s debut as the character in the upcoming film is anticipated by fans, ensuring the beloved toy continues to make an impact in the Toy Story series.
Fans can look forward to seeing Hudson's take on Combat Carl in Toy Story 5, which is slated for release next summer.
