Police have arrested Sindh Taraqi Pasand (STP) Party’s district president, Syed Jalal Shah, in a case related to an attack on convoy of Minister of State for Religious Affairs Kheel Das Kohistani.
The case was filed after protestors pelted stones at the minister’s vehicle in Thatta a day earlier.
The FIR also named several other STP activists, including Haider Shoro, Hakeem Brohi, and Javed Janori, in connection with the incident.
The convoy came across a demonstration being held by nationalist groups protesting against disputed canals. As the minister’s convoy approached, the demonstrators became agitated, throwing eggs and tomatoes at the vehicle and chanting slogans.
However, the convoy managed to pass through without further escalation.
The protest was part of a wider campaign by nationalist groups opposing water diversion and infrastructure developments that they claim threaten local agriculture and displace communities.
Human rights activists and local political groups have expressed concern over the reported use of force during Shah’s arrest, calling for an impartial inquiry into both the attack and the subsequent police actions.
“Attacks on public officials are unacceptable,” Tarar said, urging the Sindh government to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation and to bring those responsible to justice.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also took notice of the attack and issued a strong condemnation.
In a statement, he said, “No one has the right to take the law into their own hands.” He instructed Hyderabad DIG to immediately arrest those involved and submit a full report on the incident.
