Karachi - a city where access to clean water remains a daily struggle for many - is ironically watching hundreds of thousands of gallons go to waste as a burst water supply line in Liaquatabad remains unrepaired for the second consecutive day. The major leak has flooded the road from Liaquatabad to Ghareebabad, severely disrupting traffic and daily life in the area.
The 18-inch diameter pipeline reportedly burst due to negligence during a meter installation operation by KWSC. Since then, the water drainage process has yet to be completed, leaving Liaquatabad - a densely populated and commercially active area-submerged and chaotic.
For the second consecutive day, citizens have faced immense difficulties navigating the flooded roads. Local residents and shopkeepers blame the KWSC for the delay, claiming no official effort has been made to pump out the water.
The floodwater has entered numerous shops, halting business and causing financial losses estimated in the hundreds of thousands of rupees. Shopkeepers said they were forced to drain the water themselves, receiving no assistance from city authorities.
"The mayor is quick to pose for photo ops and make big promises, but has not even visited Liaquatabad or offered any support," a frustrated trader remarked.
Locals estimate that millions of gallons of clean water have gone to waste, while residents in other neighbourhoods - such as Gulshan-e-Iqbal - continue to suffer from an acute water shortage.
