Senior Afghan Taliban leader deported
A senior Afghan Taliban leader, who was arrested in Pakistan last year, has been deported after a local court ordered his release, The Express Tribune learnt on Thursday.
Dr Amin Muhammad Ul Haq was also said to be a security guard of slain al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.
"Dr Amin was arrested in July 2024 during a raid by the Counter Terrorism Department in Sarai Alamgir, Punjab," a reliable source told The Express Tribune. He was produced before a court, which ordered his release for lack of any incriminating evidence against him.
Dr Amin was subsequently deported to Afghanistan via the Torkham border crossing a week ago, the sources further said, adding that Dr Amin is now in Nangarhar province.
Dr Amin, a medical doctor by profession, had reportedly served as a bodyguard of the slain al Qaeda chief.
