Despite receiving mixed reviews and negative reactions to its trailers, A Minecraft Movie has broken multiple records and is now the second-highest earning video game movie of all time. Mojang's debut film featured several subtle references and details that only the most dedicated fans of the game would notice.
One of the harder-to-spot details is the appearance of the Totem of Undying. In a blink-and-you-miss-it moment, Steve opens a chest to reveal an Ender Pearl, with the Totem of Undying hidden inside. This brief shot is easy to overlook, especially for viewers unfamiliar with the game’s items.
Another hidden gem in the movie is a cameo by Jens Bergensten, known as Jeb, the game’s lead designer. In a quick scene where Vice Principal Marlene dines with the nitwit villager, Jens appears as a waiter serving wine. His cameo lasts for just a second, making it easy to miss.
At the start of the movie, as Jason Momoa and the others enter the Minecraft world, players can spot skeletons using enchanted bows. These bows, which have a purple glow, shoot fire arrows—something not seen in the original game.
The movie also includes several villager professions, most notably the librarian. Fans of the game will appreciate the accurate portrayal of the librarian character during a scene where the team searches for a map.
Redstone torches are another subtle detail. During a fast-paced scene where the characters escape from piglins, redstone torches can be seen powering a minecart.
Lastly, A Minecraft Movie features cameos from popular streamers like DanTDM, Aphmau, Mumbo Jumbo, and LDShadowLady, though their appearances are brief.
