College honours late Bangladeshi diplomat

Islamabad College for Boys (ICB), G-6/3, one of the capital's oldest and most prestigious educational institutions, held a heartfelt ceremony on Wednesday to honour one of its most distinguished alumni - the late Ambassador M Mijarul Quayes (1960–2017), a renowned Bangladeshi diplomat and statesman.

Founded in 1966, ICB has long been a nurturing ground for future leaders, thinkers, and professionals. Among its many accomplished graduates, Ambassador Quayes is remembered as a shining example of intellectual excellence, global vision, and dedication to public service. He studied at ICB from 1965 to 1971 before moving to Bangladesh, where he embarked on a diplomatic career that spanned over three decades.

The tribute ceremony, held on the ICB campus, brought together alumni, students, and faculty to celebrate Ambassador Quayes' legacy in international diplomacy, human rights, and cultural exchange.

Distinguished guests included Senator Fauzia Arshad, Ambassador Ashraf Qureshi, Supreme Court Judge Justice Athar Minallah, and former Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan (retd), all of whom shared personal reflections and memories of their time with Ambassador Quayes. "He made learning an adventure — he challenged himself to learn a new word every day," recalled Ambassador Ashraf Qureshi. "His discipline and curiosity inspired us all." The guest of honour, Mrs M Mijarul Quayes, travelled from Bangladesh to attend the event.

In an emotional address, she shared her late husband's fondness for his alma mater: "Mijarul always said that ICB, G-6/3, was better than Harvard - because it gave him the foundation not just for academics, but for life."
