A westerly weather system is forecast to enter the upper parts of the country on the evening of April 16 and is likely to affect the region through April 20, bringing widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and possible hailstorms.
According to PMD, rain accompanied by wind and thunder is expected in Chitral, Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, from the evening of April 16 to 20, with intermittent gaps.
Duststorms and thunderstorms are also likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several districts across central and northern Punjab including Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala, particularly on the evenings of April 16 and 18. Isolated hailstorms may occur during this period.
Southern Punjab districts including Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, and Bahawalpur are expected to experience duststorms and gusty winds on April 18 and 19.
Authorities have warned of potential damage due to wind, hail, and lightning. “Wind-dust storms, hailstorms, and lightning may damage loose structures like electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels,” the Met Office stated.
Farmers, especially those harvesting wheat, have been advised to schedule agricultural activities in line with the forecast. Landslides may also occur in vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, and Galliyat.
All concerned departments have been urged to remain alert and take precautionary measures to prevent any adverse incidents during this period.
