United Arab Emirates’ Etihad Airways has been granted permission to operate additional flights to Karachi, officials confirmed on Wednesday, Express News reported.
According to sources, Etihad Airways had requested Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to increase its Karachi-Abu Dhabi operations by three flights per week.
The CAA has approved the request, allowing the airline to operate a total of 17 weekly flights on the route, up from the current 14.
The new flights are expected to commence in October this year, expanding travel options for passengers between the two cities.
Etihad’s Karachi-Abu Dhabi service is one of the busiest international connections for the port city, serving both business and leisure travellers.
Moreover, in another development made earlier this week, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced the launch of direct flights from Lahore to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, starting April 20.
According to the airline, two weekly flights will operate on this route, departing from Lahore to Baku every Sunday and Wednesday.
To mark the occasion, a special event was held in Karachi for travel agents and tour operators, during which detailed information about the new Baku flights was shared with attendees.
PIA officials stated that the new route is expected to play a significant role in boosting bilateral tourism and trade ties. They also highlighted the role of travel agents in the success of this initiative.
