14 fall ill after consuming contaminated food

Samples from the bakery were collected and sent to a laboratory for comprehensive testing.

QUETTA:

Fourteen individuals, including children as young as two, fell seriously ill after reportedly consuming contaminated bakery products from a shop in Killi Gul Muhammad on Quetta's Airport Road.

Acting swiftly, the Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) sealed the bakery following initial findings.

A spokesperson for the authority said that a specialized inspection team was sent to the site on the orders of Director General Waqar Khurshid Alam. The inspection uncovered spoiled and fungus-infected food items on the premises, which were also found to be in unsanitary condition with poor storage practices.

Many of the items lacked labeling, such as production and expiry dates, which violates established food safety laws.

Samples from the bakery were collected and sent to a laboratory for comprehensive testing. The findings will determine further legal action against the bakery's management.

Prior to sealing the shop, officials from the BFA visited a private medical facility where the affected individuals were receiving treatment.

The patients, aged between two and forty, reported symptoms of illness shortly after consuming the bakery's food items.
