George Foreman, the legendary heavyweight boxing champion and iconic pitchman for the George Foreman Grill, passed away on March 21 at 76. Despite his renowned success in the boxing world and his post-retirement career as a beloved grillmaster, Foreman spent his final years grappling with deeply troubling abuse allegations.

As per RadarOnline, at the time of his death, Foreman was embroiled in federal lawsuits filed by two women who accused him of sexually abusing them as children in the 1970s. The women, now in their 60s, claimed that Foreman groomed and assaulted them when they were between the ages of 10 and 15 in Texas, Florida, and California. Foreman consistently denied these accusations, calling them false and claiming the women were attempting to extort millions of dollars from him. Despite his adamant denials, Foreman was never able to fully clear his name.

Foreman’s legal team vigorously defended him, asserting that the claims were opportunistic and defamatory. "George Foreman vehemently and consistently denied these baseless allegations," his lawyers stated, highlighting his attempts to discredit the claims through every available legal means. However, his efforts were met with frustration. A key moment in his legal struggle occurred in 2023 when U.S. District Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong ruled that the lawsuits could proceed, citing California's #MeToo laws, which allow minors to file claims beyond typical statutes of limitations. This ruling ensured that the case continued even as Foreman fought to dismiss it.

Throughout his final years, Foreman was plagued by the legal cloud hanging over him, despite his notable career achievements. After retiring from boxing in 1977, he became an ordained minister and later returned to the ring in 1994 at the age of 45, capturing the heavyweight title once more. Yet, even in his post-boxing fame, which included the widespread success of his grill, the accusations lingered, casting a shadow over his legacy.

As Foreman’s family mourned his death, remembering him as a "devout preacher" and a "loving father," his struggle to clear his name remained unresolved. The man who once conquered the boxing world was ultimately unable to overcome the legal battles that tarnished his later years, leaving questions about his reputation unanswered.
