Moot held on fake news in digital era

KARACHI:

The Department of Media at Ilma University has hosted fifth International Media Conference, focusing on the theme "Fake News and Environmental Reporting in the Digital Era." The event brought together prominent journalists, media academics, and researchers from across the country.

Chief Executive of Aaj Media Group, Asif Zuberi, served as the chief guest and delivered a keynote address highlighting the historical context and evolving nature of fake news in Pakistan.

The conference featured two panel discussions on fake news and environmental journalism, with participation from leading media professionals and experts including Kamal Siddiqui, Amber Rahim Shamsi, Dr Nuzhat Khan, Shabina Faraz, Danish Rashidi, Tawfiq Pasha Moraj, Naveed Hussain, Munza Siddiqui, and others.

Fifteen researchers, including PhD scholars from various universities, presented academic papers exploring misinformation and environmental issues in the local context. Among the presenters were Farooq Sami, Tariq Ahmed, Ahsan Khan, Asif Raj, Muskan, Mehr Afroz, and Salimullah.

The event was co-chaired by Dean of the Faculty of Media and Design Dr Yasmin Sultana Farooqi, Registrar Syed Kashif Rafi, and Dr Imtiaz Subhani. It also brought together department heads from leading universities, including Dr Ismat Ara from University of Karachi, Dr Masroor Khanum from Federal Urdu University, Dr Iram Hafeez from Iqra University, Dr Taha Shabbir and Dr Mujeeb Abro from Shah Latif University, and Dr Fatima Anjari from SZABIST.
