HYDERABAD:

Eight months after a companion of Shaheed Fazil Rahu, a towering figure who emerged during the Movement for Restoration of Democracy, took his life at Rahu's grave, his son also allegedly committed suicide at the same place. The incident happened in Rahuki, Badin district, on Friday.

The dead body of 44-year-old comrade, Ayaz Jokhio, was found in the premises of the mausoleum, then shifted to district headquarters hospital for post-mortem.

Later, Jokhio's brother and family members, including women and children, besides dozens of supporters, staged a protest along with the dead body, blaming former provincial minister, Ismail Rahu, for Jokhio's suicide and that of his father, comrade Ali Muhammad Jokhio.

Sarang Latif Jokhio, brother of the deceased, said his father and whole family had worked for the Rahus since the 1980s, but their loyalty is being paid back with dead bodies. They urged authorities to conduct an impart investigation to ascertain the circumstances which led to the suicides.

The protesters later dispersed and the deceased was laid to rest beside his father's grave in the village of Qabil Jokhio. Sarang claimed that before death, his brother had told his family not to allow Rahu to come to his funeral. Ismail Rahu, who belongs to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), succeeded his father in politics.
