The latest episode of ABC’s 9-1-1 launches a tense two-part storyline as a deadly virus outbreak threatens the lives of several key characters. Airing April 10, the “Contagion” event begins with the introduction of Moira, played by Batwoman alum Bridget Regan—a rogue scientist whose unauthorised experiments trigger a biological disaster.
Moira is seen engineering a mutated strain of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever—described in the episode as “Ebola’s nastier cousin.” When her superior discovers her unauthorised work, Moira sets the lab ablaze and vanishes, setting off a chain reaction that puts the 118 team in jeopardy.
A lab explosion leaves Hen with a collapsed lung. Chimney, who begins showing early signs of infection, is forced to guide Bobby through a high-risk procedure to save her life. Though successful, Chimney’s condition quickly worsens—coughing up blood into a mask in a moment reminiscent of a tragic film death.
With time running out, Ravi defies military orders to retrieve a possible cure. It’s a heroic moment—until it’s revealed the canister is empty. Athena quickly deduces that Moira stole it during her escape, a theory confirmed in the episode’s final scene as she disappears into a crowd.
Now, with Hen barely stable, Chimney deteriorating, Bobby exposed to the virus, and Moira at large, the team faces its most dangerous crisis yet. TVLine’s Andy Swift reports the conclusion will raise the stakes even further.
The second part of “Contagion” airs next week on ABC. Fans are already flooding social media with theories and concerns, especially over the fate of Chimney and Bobby.
