PESHAWAR:

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has dismissed a review petition challenging Pakistan's agreements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the alleged imposition of a Riba-based system, and the disqualification of the President and Prime Minister for allegedly violating their constitutional oaths.

The case was heard by a two-member bench comprising Justice Ijaz Anwar and Justice Kamran Hayat Miankhel. The petitioner, Khalid Shah, argued that the government's dealings with the IMF, which involve interest (Riba), are a violation of the constitutional oaths taken by the President and Prime Minister, rendering them disqualified from holding office.

During the hearing, Justice Ijaz Anwar remarked, "Bribes have to be paid to get anything done here. Officers take oaths, but still, bribes are taken." He further questioned the petitioner, asking how he personally had been affected by these issues.

The petitioner responded, stating that the interest-based system has been imposed on the entire nation, affecting everyone.
