Executive Officer of Korangi Cantonment Faisal Munir Wattoo has claimed that the fire raging at Korangi Creek has been largely brought under control, and efforts are underway to prevent further damage.
While speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Wattoo reassured the public that the blaze has been contained and that there is no immediate threat of further spread.
The fire, which had caused concern, has now been confined, and Korangi Industrial Park, along with other nearby installations, has been secured, he claimed, adding that fire-fighting teams are working in three shifts to manage the situation, with fire brigade vehicles present at the site.
Security personnel have also been deployed to ensure the safety of the area and to prevent public access, Wattoo said while urging citizens to avoid turning the site into a recreational area for their safety.
When asked about the nature of the blaze, Wattoo confirmed that no evidence of thermal gas had been detected at the site. Water, along with other liquid samples, has been collected from the area for analysis.
Some lab reports have already been received, while others are still pending. He assured the public that all relevant agencies, under the coordination of the Ministry of Petroleum, are involved in ensuring a thorough investigation.
