Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has suggested that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi should consider stepping down from one of his key positions to handle matters more effectively.
Afridi made the remarks following his recent meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, where he expressed his condolences for the passing of the General's mother.
During their conversation, Afridi shared his thoughts on Naqvi's dual roles as both the PCB chairman and the Federal Minister of Interior, expressing that managing both positions could hinder Naqvi's ability to focus on either role fully.
"In my view, holding two positions at the same time prevents him from giving his full attention," Afridi explained.
"You should choose between the Interior Ministry and the PCB. If you concentrate on just one role, you will serve Pakistan better," he added.
Afridi, known for his influential leadership and extensive cricket experience, emphasized that while he respects Naqvi's dedication to improving Pakistan's cricket, the demands of both roles are too much for one person to handle efficiently.
"You can't sail two boats at once. Focusing on one role will allow you to handle matters more effectively," Afridi said.
"He has great passion and determination for improving cricket, but he must focus on one thing for the benefit of the country," he further added.
Sources further claimed that the former all-rounder also shared his views with General Asim Munir, stating that cricket remains a vital source of entertainment for the people of Pakistan, and that Naqvi's intentions are sincere. However, Afridi stressed that with two major commitments, Naqvi would struggle to achieve his goals in both fields.
"Cricket is a full-time job, and both are huge responsibilities. Two big tasks cannot be done at the same time," Afridi further added.
It is worth mentioning that last week, Mohsin Naqvi was appointed the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), becoming the first Pakistani to assume the role since 2008. Naqvi was elected unopposed, succeeding Shammi Silva, the President of Sri Lanka Cricket.
"Mr. Mohsin Naqvi has assumed charge as the new President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Naqvi, who has served as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman since February 2024, will assume this prestigious role on April 3, 2025. His appointment ushers in a new chapter of leadership for Asian cricket," the ACC said in a statement.
