ISLAMABAD:

The global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal on Wednesday expressed interest in expanding to Pakistan, highlighting its long-term strategy for the region's growing markets.

The firm's delegation, led by Division Executive Peter Briggs, Managing Director Abdalla ElEbiary, and Global Head of Sovereign Advisory Reza Baqir, met with Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, according to a finance ministry press release. Briggs noted that Alvarez & Marsal is considering opening an office in Pakistan to support privatisation efforts and attract global investors. He said Pakistan's expanding market offers major investment and growth opportunities.

The meeting was part of ongoing talks on the firm's possible role in Pakistan's privatisation initiatives and plans for a sovereign wealth fund.

Aurangzeb welcomed the firm's interest and acknowledged its expertise. He said the government is accelerating privatisation, with 24 state-owned entities added to the pipeline. He also highlighted macroeconomic stability achieved over the past 14 months, citing renewed investor interest, including major commitments like AP Moller Maersk's in the maritime sector.

The minister said the government aims to enhance trade, investment, and tourism, and expressed hope that a partnership with Alvarez & Marsal would help shape Pakistan's economic future.
