Set to moody visuals of Lorde walking through Washington Square Park in New York City during golden hour, the short clip features her singing over a synth-heavy beat: “I gave you everything now / we wake from a dream, but baby, what was that.” Moments later, the beat drops, evoking the emotional, cinematic energy that defined her 2017 album Melodrama.

Coinciding with the TikTok post, Lorde also wiped her Instagram account, replacing it with a new, blurry profile picture featuring her holding a holographic water bottle. The pop star’s signature cryptic rollout has fans speculating a new album or single announcement is imminent.

Lorde hasn’t released a full-length project since 2021’s Solar Power, though she made a surprise appearance on Charli XCX’s 2024 hit "Girl, so confusing," which was ranked #2 on The FADER’s best songs of the year list.

Though Lorde has yet to confirm a release date or title, the new teaser and social media changes strongly hint that a full comeback is on the horizon. Fans have started a full-fledged pop emergency online, eager to decode every frame of the teaser and every lyric.

One thing's for sure — the Lorde comeback has officially begun, and it already sounds iconic.
