The sleek, flat black marker bears a cryptic yet fitting epitaph: “Night Blooming Jasmine,” a reference deeply tied to Lynch’s personal reflections on Los Angeles and its enduring mystique. In a 2016 interview with AnOtherMagazine, Lynch described the scent of night-blooming jasmine in Los Angeles as a sensory trigger that evokes the memory of classic Hollywood icons like Clark Gable and Gloria Swanson.

In a 2020 YouTube “Weather Report," also, he looked forward to spring in Los Angeles, noting: “That night blooming jasmine will once again fill the air with its sublime fragrance.”

Lynch, known for iconic films such as Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, and the groundbreaking series Twin Peaks, died in January 2025 at the age of 78. His death was attributed to cardiac arrest resulting from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), with dehydration as a contributing factor. He was cremated, and his ashes were interred at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
