The Punjab School Education Department has imposed a new dress code for teachers, following a similar move in Sindh.

A notification issued by the department states that male teachers in government schools are prohibited from wearing jeans and T-shirts.

Female teachers and students are also instructed not to come to school wearing excessive makeup, high heels, or expensive jewelry. Additionally, female teachers must wear shalwar kameez with dupattas or hijabs.

The new dress code aims to ensure that teachers maintain attire reflecting professional and cultural values.

The department has emphasised that strict action will be taken against teachers who fail to comply with the guidelines.  Private schools have also been directed to enforce the dress code among their staff.

The decision comes as part of ongoing efforts to uphold discipline and respect for cultural norms within educational institutions.
