HARIPUR:

The court acquitted the sailor apprehended in the Tarbela Lake boat accident.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Convener of Tehsil Council Ghazi, Advocate Khanzada Hayat Khan Tanoli said that to prevent such tragic incidents in the future, the government and administration must play their role without waiting for the loss of human lives.

He questioned the whereabouts of the billions of rupees in terms of royalty received from the Tarbela Dam, sacrificed by the local people for the national interest. "No one knows where this royalty is going," he said, adding that this money should first be used to provide road facilities to the people of remote areas, including Bait Gali.

He lamented that even in this modern era, residents of Bait Gali and nearby areas are deprived of basic facilities. "We lost everything when the Tarbela Dam was built, but in return, we received nothing but deprivation."

He demanded a forensic audit of the dam's royalty funds to uncover how and where the money is being spent. He pointed out that for the people of Bait Gali, the only means to reach Haripur is by boat, which comes just once a week. Due to limited transportation options, people risk their lives by travelling in overcrowding boats. Otherwise, they must travel by road through two different districts, wasting an entire day.
