
A wanted robbery suspect was killed in a police encounter in Chaklala area yesterday.
According to Rawalpindi police officials, Shakeel Kiyani, mastermind of countless house robberies in Punjab, was a highly wanted and dangerous criminal. He was considered by the underworld, a key figure in house robberies across Punjab. He made off with hundreds of millions of rupees in cash and jewellery by committing dozens of robberies.
Shakeel Kiyani was wanted and involved in major house robberies in numerous districts, including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Vehari and Bahawalpur. To alert the public, his images were even displayed in major housing societies. His primary targets were high-end homes, where he would often take families hostage during the robberies. His focus was on cities connected to motorways.
He was associated with notorious robbers like Amir Shah, Akram Pehlwan Lahori, and Hafiz Ashraf. In 2011, he had formed a gang of 25 robbers.
He has managed to evade arrest in Punjab districts since 2017. He also facilitated the release of over 100 dacoits in various districts using fake documents.
He was skilled in creating counterfeit documents and frequently changed his appearance to evade capture.
