LAHORE:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has firmly denied recent reports suggesting that its chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, will be stepping down from his role following his appointment as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

Over the weekend, rumors about Naqvi's resignation circulated, largely due to his new position at the ACC. However, a PCB official responded to these claims on Monday, clarifying that the reports were baseless and that Naqvi remains "fully committed" to the growth of Pakistan cricket.

"There is no truth to the reports about Mr. Naqvi's resignation," the official said.

"He continues to perform his duties as PCB Chairman and remains fully committed to the development of Pakistan cricket," official added.

The official also emphasized that holding dual roles within both the PCB and the ACC is not uncommon. With proper time management, it is possible to effectively handle responsibilities in both positions.

"It is an honour for Pakistan that our representative is leading the ACC. Mr. Naqvi has no intention of stepping down from the PCB at this stage," the official further added.

Naqvi's election as the ACC President came last week, making him the first Pakistani to hold the prestigious position since 2008. He was elected unopposed, succeeding Shammi Silva, the President of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

"Mr. Mohsin Naqvi has assumed charge as the new President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Naqvi, who has served as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman since February 2024, will assume this prestigious role on 3rd April, 2025. His appointment ushers in a new chapter of leadership for Asian cricket," the ACC said in a statement.
