Robert Pattinson may be headed to Arrakis. According to sources close to the production, The Batman star is in early talks to join Dune 3, the final chapter in director Denis Villeneuve’s acclaimed sci-fi saga.
While no official offer has been made, Legendary is reportedly eyeing Pattinson for the key role of Scytale, a villainous shapeshifter from the Bene Tleilax.
Villeneuve is currently finalizing the script, with plans to begin filming Dune 3 this summer. The project follows the massive success of Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two, which together grossed over $1.12 billion worldwide and earned a total of 15 Oscar nominations, including back-to-back Best Picture nods.
The returning ensemble includes Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Florence Pugh. With several new roles still to be cast, the franchise continues to draw high-profile talent eager to join the award-winning universe based on Frank Herbert’s classic novels.
If confirmed, Pattinson would join the franchise after recent projects like The Drama (with Zendaya), Lynne Ramsay’s Die, My Love (opposite Jennifer Lawrence), and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which he is currently filming.
Dune 3 will mark Villeneuve’s final entry in the series, though the Dune universe continues to expand, including HBO’s Dune: Prophecy, a prequel series set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides’ rise.
Robert Pattinson is represented by WME, 3 Arts Entertainment, Curtis Brown Group, and attorney Robert Offer.
