Shardul Thakur made IPL history on Tuesday by bowling the longest over ever in the league’s history, delivering a dramatic 11-ball over during Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) clash with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Thakur, who replaced Mohsin Khan in the LSG lineup for this season, bowled the 13th over of KKR's run chase, during which he delivered five wides on his first five balls, a rare and remarkable feat.

This over became the third instance in IPL history where an 11-ball over was bowled, following Tushar Deshpande's over against LSG in Chennai and Mohammed Siraj's over against Mumbai Indians in Bengaluru, both in 2023.

Despite the chaos early in the over, Thakur ended it on a high note for LSG by dismissing Ajinkya Rahane for 61 off 35 balls, conceding 13 runs overall. Rahane was out off the final ball of the over, and Thakur followed up with a wicket in his next over, dismissing Andre Russell for seven.

Thakur’s final figures stood at 2/52, though he bowled eight wides across his spell. Despite his lengthy over, he was not the most expensive bowler for LSG, with Avesh Khan conceding 55 runs in his four overs.

Longest over in IPL (By balls):

11 balls - Tushar Deshpande vs LSG, Chennai, 2023

11 balls - Mohammed Siraj vs MI, Bengaluru, 2023

11 balls - Shardul Thakur vs KKR, Kolkata, 2025
