Elon Musk’s attempt to showcase Starlink’s in-flight gaming performance during a live stream of Path of Exile 2 was overwhelmed by a wave of trolling.
The stream, broadcast from a jet equipped with a Starlink satellite dish, quickly turned into a digital roast session as gamers flooded the in-game chat with insults directed at the SpaceX CEO.
“You ruined the country just like you ruined all your marriages,” read one message. Another user repeatedly posted, “You have no real friends and will die alone.” The event was meant to highlight Starlink’s capability to support real-time online gaming in flight, but the focus shifted as the chat became a stream of personal attacks, criticism, and mockery.
Musk acknowledged the disruption, saying, “There’s a lot of r*tards in the chat,” but did not enable features like “Do Not Disturb” or hide the chat—despite being prompted by players on how to do so. The chaotic messaging continued to clutter the lower-left corner of the screen throughout the session.
Players identified Musk’s character names after he accessed the menu, further fuelling the spamming. Many also criticised his gameplay, following his recent admission that he paid others to level up his Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 accounts.
Adding to the public ridicule, Musk’s estranged daughter, Vivian Wilson, recently commented on his gaming ability during a Twitch appearance with Hasan Piker. “He was a Bronze in Overwatch,” she said, calling him a “f**king dogsh*t” Torbjörn main who regularly asked her and her twin to help him rank up when they were 12.
