KARACHI:

Dismissed employees of Pakistan Steel Mills have staged a sit-in protest on the Bin Qasim Railway Station track, leading to the complete suspension of train services to and from the city, causing passengers severe inconvenience.

The protesters, holding banners in their hands, raised strong slogans.

The Divisional Commercial Officer (DCO) Karachi Railways stated that there is a huge rush of passengers of Tezgam Express, Karachi Express and other trains at Karachi Cantt Station as many trains have been delayed for hours, with passengers demanding a refund of the ticket money. Railway administration announced that the ticket money will be refunded to passengers of trains delayed by more than six hours.

The Rehman Baba Express was stopped at Landhi, and the Pakistan Express was stopped at Drigh Road station, while passengers of the Millat Express and Green Line were forced to leave on foot from Pipri station. Railway administration has been trying to end the sit-in since morning, to no avail.

The Federal Minister for Railways contacted CM requesting his cooperation in clearing the tracks, stating that train operations have been suspended for several hours.

The train traffic was restored after labour unions reached a deal.
