Seven 'drug peddlers' land behind bars

Drive yields over 340 kilogrammes of drugs in just two days

Rawalpindi police have arrested 17 suspects during a drive against drug dealers.

According to a spokesperson for the police, over 38 kilogrammes of drugs were also recovered during the campaign launched on the orders of the Punjab chief minister.

He said in the latest crackdown, New Town police arrested Imran with 5.1 kilogrammes of hashish and Rafiullah with 1.3 kilogrammes.

Rawat police recovered 4.48 kilogrammes of hashish from Ahsan Saleem. Saddar Bairooni Police seized 3.7 kilogrammes from Imran and 1.7 kilogrammes from Mumtaz.

"Ratta Amral police arrested Haris with 3.3 kilogrammes and Asad with 2.5 kilogrammes. Pirwadhai Police took Musarrat Bibi into custody with 1.8 kilogrammes, while Jehanzaib was found with 2.2 kilogrammes," the spokesperson said.

He also said another suspect, Ibrahim, was caught with 2 kilogrammes of hashish. Waris Khan police arrested Muhammad Shaan with 1.55 kilogrammes and Usman with 1.18 kilogrammes. Banni police recovered 1.382 kilogrammes of hashish from Amjad Noor and 1.226 kilogrammes from Liaqat.

The City Police Officer said that in addition to law enforcement operations, public awareness campaigns were also underway.
