A six-year-old child beggar who had gone missing a day earlier was found dead in a field in the Jatoi area of Muzzafargarh district.
According to police sources, the child belonging to an impoverished family had gone to a shop near his home to buy food items but did not return home. A search was launched by the family and police, following which he was found dead in a sunflower crop. Initial investigations suggest the minor may have been abducted and subjected to sexual assault before being murdered.
The police registered a case and formed teams to apprehend the killers. Police officials said the cause of death would be confirmed after the postmortem report.
Meanwhile, Rajanpur and Muzaffargarh police rescued a kidnapped landlord from the katcha area.
A police spokesperson said Chaudhry Zafar had been abducted on March 22 from his farmhouse in Kundian. Police teams rescued him from the katcha area of Rajanpur. During the operation, 12 suspects were taken into custody for interrogation.
In another incident, a youth was tied to a tree and beaten up by a group of men in the Khangarh area. A video of the incident went viral on social media.
Police officials said the victim, Tariq, was tied to a tree and beaten with sticks, rods and whips by the men.
The assault reportedly stemmed from an altercation during a volleyball match. The assailants not only tortured Tariq in front of dozens of bystanders but also recorded the act on video, which they later circulated online.
Khangarh police arrested three suspects in the incident.
