LAHORE:

An 88-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a speeding vehicle while crossing the Multan Road in the Chung area on Sunday.

The victim, identified as Abdul Rahim, was attempting to cross the road when the accident occurred.

Rescue officials said the driver of the speeding vehicle fled the scene. Police shifted the body to a morgue for legal formalities.

Meanwhile, at least 12 people died, whereas 1,768 were injured in 1,484 Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) in Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Official data showed that 194 pedestrians, 890 adult and 53 underage drivers, and 696 passengers were among the victims.

The statistics showed that 256 road crashed were reported in Lahore, which affected 317 persons, followed by 89 in Faisalabad with 107 victims and 85 in Gujranwala with 95 victims.

Of the victims, 1,363 were male and 417 female, while 353 of them were under 18 years of age, 890 between 18 and 40 years.
