Kiefer Sutherland became a trending topic on April 4 as reports emerged that Ralph Fiennes is in negotiations to portray President Coriolanus Snow in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

The news has stirred strong emotions among fans of the franchise, who remember Kiefer’s father, Donald Sutherland, as the original Snow in all four Hunger Games films between 2012 and 2015.

Social media, particularly X (formerly Twitter), exploded with reactions. Many fans expressed disappointment that Kiefer wasn’t first in line to inherit the role made iconic by his late father, who passed away in June 2024 at age 88.

One user wrote, “What’s even the point of nepotism if Kiefer Sutherland doesn’t get to play President Snow?”. Another added, “That’s crazy considering Kiefer Sutherland is the exact age Snow is in that book,”

Others speculated that Kiefer might have declined or was never approached, stating that, "Would it be that shocking if Kiefer Sutherland didn't want to play his deceased dad in a months-long film project when the body's barely hit the floor".

According to Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games universe timeline, the character’s age would align closely with Sutherland’s real-life age.

Still, the casting of Ralph Fiennes, known for complex villain roles like Voldemort in Harry Potter, brings prestige and gravitas to the upcoming prequel.

Lionsgate has yet to confirm any official casting decisions, and no statements have been made by Sutherland or Fiennes.
