Rumours of a prequel series of “SATC” had been making rounds for three years, with updates on the revamped version of the television show first reported in 2008. Finally in 2011, deadline.com confirms that “SATC” prequel, “The Carrie Diaries”, is indeed set to go into production as a TV series on channel CW.
According to deadline.com, “The Carrie Diaries” is a TV series project based on Sex And The City author Candace Bushnell’s recent book, The Carrie Diaries, about Carrie Bradshaw’s high school years.
Producers of “The Carrie Diaries” have asked former “SATC” show writer Amy Harris to join the team, and “Gossip Girl” executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage have been tapped to assist in the production of the new TV series.
Currently, neither Sarah Jessica Parker nor Darren Star — both of whom produced “Sex And The City” on HBO — are involved in the project. And while it has been reported that “Gossip Girl’s” Blake Lively and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s little sister Elizabeth will star in the series, this has not been confirmed reports dailymail.co.uk.
Considering the lukewarm success of the SATC films (released in 2008 and 2010), one should not keep unreasonably high hopes from this project, but for now the anticipation of yet another shot at “SATC” is enough to keep fans happy.
