David Fincher is set to direct a follow-up to Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 hit Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with Brad Pitt reprising his Oscar-winning role as stuntman Cliff Booth.

The new film, which remains untitled, is being developed at Netflix under Fincher’s first-look deal, marking a significant shift from the original’s theatrical release by Sony Pictures to a streaming platform.

Quentin Tarantino has written the script for the sequel, despite stepping back from directing duties. The move comes after Tarantino shelved The Movie Critic, which had been positioned as his final film and was to star Pitt. Reports suggest the scrapped project included elements related to Booth’s character, which may now be incorporated into the Netflix sequel.

Brad Pitt’s return as Cliff Booth reunites him with Fincher, with whom he previously collaborated on cinematic landmarks including Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The duo’s history hints at another potentially genre-defining collaboration. While Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie are not expected to return, Pitt’s reprisal offers continuity with Tarantino’s richly developed universe.

The original Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was both a critical and commercial success, and this follow-up, blending the visions of two cinematic giants, is already generating anticipation ahead of production. Netflix has yet to comment on the release timeline.
