Mitchell Starc’s sensational five-wicket haul guided Delhi Capitals(DC) to a dominant seven-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH) in IPL 2024 on Sunday, marking their second consecutive win.
Opting to bat first, Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a modest total of 163 in 18.4 overs, despite a brilliant 74 from Aniket Verma and a handy 32 from Heinrich Klaasen.
Starc, who starred in Kolkata Knight Riders' IPL final victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad, wreaked havoc with the ball once again, dismantling SRH’s top order. He struck three crucial blows in the powerplay, including dismissing the dangerous Travis Head for the sixth time in T20 cricket.
Abhishek Sharma's early run-out was followed by dismissals of Ishan Kishan and Nitish Reddy by Starc, while Head soon followed to leave SRH reeling. Verma’s impressive knock ended when he was caught brilliantly by Jake Fraser-McGurk.
Starc finished with outstanding figures of 5 for 35, while Kuldeep Yadav’s 3 for 22 helped Delhi restrict SRH to their lowest total of the season.
In reply, Faf du Plessis’s explosive 27-ball fifty guided Delhi to the target of 164 in just 16 overs.
Abhishek Porel (34 off 18) and Tristan Stubbs (21 off 14) remained unbeaten, as Delhi Capitals crossed the finish line with seven wickets in hand and four overs to spare, securing back-to-back wins and jumping to second place in the standings.
